TDSB's Update re: Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO)
as of February 12, 2020

We wanted to provide you with an update on recently announced job actions to be taken next week by both the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF).

Today, both unions have announced they will be taking part in a full strike on Friday, February 21, 2020 that will impact all TDSB schools.

As with previous strike days, the TDSB would have no other option but to close all schools (elementary and secondary) to students on this day as there would not be sufficient supervision to ensure their safety. Parents/guardians should make alternate arrangements for their children on these dates if necessary.

Child care centres located in elementary schools will be permitted to stay open.

DWDC Availability and Strike Fees
as of February 5, 2020
As a centre we have been trying our best to support and accommodate our families on strike days and we have not previously charged any extra fees. Unfortunately, as this is becoming an ongoing situation with a potential of 2 days/week of additional full day programming, the centre is no longer able to cover the costs and families that require full day care on strike days will be required to pay an additional charge (see below).
We will also be opening up any extra spots we have to families in the community that may require care, just for those days. As such, it is important that daycare families please advise daycare staff if you will be requiring care on strike days as soon as possible, so that we can offer those spots to those in need.

If you are not currently enrolled in Dearham Wood Daycare, but would like to send your kid(s) during strike days, please reach out to our Supervisor to check for availability. We will be working on a first come, first served basis.
