It's Flu Season...

Over the past few weeks the daycare has been sending children home with various flu symptoms.  In an effort to maintain the health, safety and well-being of all families, children and staff we would like to send out a gentle reminder regarding the Dearham Wood Daycare Illness Policy (please see below).

In the best interest of all, we ask that you be considerate and use reasonable judgement when determining if your child is ready to come back into program.  In group situations, germs are passed easily and quickly, regardless of precautions taken.  If there are indicators that your child is unwell or unable to cope with our program they should stay at home.

Illness Policy

A child may not be in the Centre if they have any of the following:

  • A temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38.5 Celsius) or over;

  • Serious or unexplained diarrhea;

  • Vomiting due to illness;

  • Extensive and unexplained rashes;

  • Unexplained paleness, flushed face or constant crying;

  • Yellow discharge from crust around puffy or red eyes; and/or

  • If they require medication to manage their health or fever.

If a child has been away from the Centre or has been sent home with fever, diarrhea or vomiting they may not return until they are free of the above referenced symptoms for 24 hours.

There are also times when a child is not showing signs of a definite illness; however, they are not able to handle the stress of the day. In these instances, it will be the decision of the Supervisor and the staff as to whether or not the child should be taken home.
